Silicon Catalyst this week launched its ChipStart EU program in Malta at the Global Semiconductor Conference here on the island country in the Mediterranean Sea.
The program is modeled on an initiative that the specialist semiconductor incubator launched in the U.K. in 2023, where the first cohort of companies closed €18 million (about $18.98 million) in angel and venture capital funding to date.
Sean Redmond, managing partner for Silicon Catalyst U.K., remarked: “Clearly the model has worked in the UK, so we wanted to repeat it for the European Union.”
The new ChipStart EU program, which is funded by the EU’s Chips Joint Undertaking initiative, will accept 10-12 startups for a program that runs 12 months (instead of the nine months in the U.K.). Redmond said the newly registered company in Malta, as a subsidiary of Silicon Catalyst in the U.S., will provide industry specific training for startups in Europe to get investor ready.
