Our Work on the Sustainable Development Goals in Türkiye

How the UN is supporting The Sustainable Development Goals in Türkiye

The UN and its partners in Türkiye are working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: 17 interconnected and ambitious Goals which address the major development challenges faced by people in Türkiye and around the world. UN Türkiye works together with its local partners to achieve them by 2030. If the Goals are going to work, everyone needs to know about them. TELL EVERYONE.

The Sustainable Development Goals in Türkiye

The Sustainable Development Goals are a global call to action to end poverty, protect the earth’s environment and climate, and ensure that people everywhere can enjoy peace and prosperity. These are the goals the UN is working on in Türkiye:

Country leaders came together at the Sustainable Development Summit of the United Nations (UN), held in New York on September 25, 2015, to accept the Sustainable Development Goals, which consist of 17 goals and 169 targets to eradicate poverty in all its dimensions and ensure the common welfare of humanity by 2030.

The declared Sustainable Development Goals are a global call to action to end poverty, protect the environment, take measures against the climate crisis, equitable share of prosperity, and ensure peace. The goal is to offer a better and livable world for humanity and future generations.

Higher education institutions, which play a critical role in the development of countries and in increasing their welfare, have an essential role as stakeholders that contribute to achieving sustainable development goals. On the other hand, it is essential that universities, which are almost like small cities with their large sizes and populations, adopt the principle of being a sustainable university that works to minimize the adverse effects arising from environmental, social, and economic aspects while carrying out their activities, offering a livable green campus to its stakeholders, and leading the society in sustainability.
